Shadowrocket for iPad: Redownload from Purchased with the Same Apple ID and Use the Landscape Layout

Redownload Shadowrocket on iPad from Purchased using the Apple ID that bought it. Learn how landscape split views work and how to import configuration and subscription data on each device.

At a glance

If you bought Shadowrocket on your iPhone, first check which Apple ID is used for purchases on your iPad, then redownload it from your purchase history. A purchase record is not a configuration backup: after installation, check Home, Config, and Settings, import your own connection details, and approve the first connection on the iPad. This guide covers account checks, landscape navigation, configuration imports, and connection troubleshooting.

Check your purchase history before downloading on iPad

Shadowrocket is a paid app distributed through the App Store, purchased with a one-time payment. If the same Apple ID made the purchase and is still eligible to redownload the app, you can get it again from Purchased on your iPad without buying the app a second time. Check the App Store listing for system requirements and purchase availability. Having Shadowrocket installed on your iPhone does not confirm that the account currently signed in on your iPad owns the purchase.

Check the Apple ID used for App Store purchases—not just the iCloud account shown at the top of your device. They can be different. Open the App Store on your iPad, tap your account profile, and check the account and app history. To verify further, go to Settings → Apple Account → Media & Purchases to see the account used for media and purchases. The corresponding label may vary depending on your system language.

  1. Check the purchasing Apple ID

On the device where you originally bought Shadowrocket, check the App Store account and purchase history to confirm which Apple ID owns the purchase. Then compare it with the purchasing account on your iPad.

  2. Open your purchase history

On your iPad, go to App Store → account profile → Apps → My Apps and look for Shadowrocket. Some system versions show a Purchased entry instead. The label may vary by device and system version.

  3. Verify the app listing

Search for Shadowrocket and check that the developer is Shadow Launch Technology Limited and the app ID is 932747118. To compare the icon and App Store details, see our App Store listing verification guide first.

  4. Redownload the app

Tap the cloud download button next to the purchase record and follow any prompts to verify your account. If you see a price instead of a redownload option, check the account and purchase history before considering another purchase.

If Shadowrocket does not appear in the list, check that you are viewing the complete purchase history and whether the purchase is hidden, refunded, or unavailable to redownload because of App Store availability changes. Not finding it in one filtered list does not prove the purchase is no longer valid. Clear any search filters and check your purchase history again. For transaction status, refer to the App Store record.

Landscape changes the layout, not what your configuration means

The main difference in landscape on iPad is the extra screen width. Pages that support a split view can show a list and its details side by side. Select an item and its editing pane may appear in another column rather than replacing the whole screen as it would on a narrow display. The layout also depends on window size and system multitasking settings. If you do not see two columns, that alone does not mean the installation is faulty.

In landscape, check the highlighted item, then the details pane title, and finally confirm that the change was saved or completed. When editing several items in a row, do not assume the visible content on the right belongs to the selected item—it may be left over from the previous selection. Switch to portrait and check the same item again to tell a layout change from an unsaved change.

The same purchasing account does not mean both devices have the same configuration

An App Store purchase confirms your eligibility to get the app. Using the same purchasing account on two devices does not automatically make their servers, subscriptions, rules, or current selections identical. This guide assumes that you import and check the details on each device separately, without relying on automatic sync. Even if you use a sync feature provided by the app, check what actually arrived on the target device and verify the connection.

Configuration checklist: keep your iPhone setup and prepare the iPad separately

iPhone: Check your existing setup
  • Note the name and source of the subscription you currently use.
  • Confirm which configuration file is enabled in Config.
  • Check the current Global Routing selection.
  • Keep the existing working configuration intact; avoid changing both devices at once.
iPad: Import and verify
  • Import your own subscription or connection details.
  • Import the configuration file you need and select it separately.
  • Check the selected server and Global Routing.
  • Allow the system to add a VPN configuration, then connect manually.

Check purchase eligibility, connection details, and connection status separately. Matching names are no substitute for checking each item.

To use a subscription you already have, go to Home → “+” → Type → Subscribe, enter your own subscription URL, and save it. Then update the subscription. Saving the URL and successfully retrieving a server list are separate steps: check that the expected entries appear in the group and that no update error is shown. Updating a subscription typically refreshes the content it provides; it does not mean that rule files in Config have also been replaced or synced.

Check Global Routing before changing any rules

After moving from iPhone to iPad, first check the active selection under Home → Global Routing. The same server can produce different results when the routing mode differs. Below are three common options in Shadowrocket. Scene is for scene-related settings, not another set of server details; do not use it instead of basic checks unless you understand its conditions.

Config

Recommended

Routes connections according to the rules in the active configuration. Rules specify policies such as DIRECT, PROXY, or REJECT. Connections that do not match earlier rules are handled by FINAL; they are not necessarily routed directly.

Use when: You have a verified traffic-routing configuration and want the same rule behavior on iPad.

Proxy

Sends connections handled by the app through the proxy policy rather than selecting a route rule by rule in Config. This can help determine whether routing rules explain a difference, but it does not rule out server or network issues.

Use when: Briefly troubleshooting differences between rule matching and proxy connections.

Direct

Uses a direct connection without routing traffic through the selected proxy server. Even if the system still shows VPN as connected, that does not mean requests are using the proxy endpoint.

Use when: Comparing results with the device’s regular network connection.

Do not change servers, edit rules, and switch Global Routing all at once. Keep the test target the same, change one setting, note the result, and then restore it. This helps distinguish a configuration selection issue from a server connection issue, without mistaking a landscape layout change for a change in network behavior.

Check rule files and On Demand separately

Rules determine how connections are handled. On Demand controls automatic connection behavior when its conditions are met. They solve different problems. On a fresh installation, connect manually and verify the result first, then check any existing conditions under Settings → On Demand. Do not copy automatic connection settings you do not understand just to make the iPad look like the iPhone.

Check Config rules

Rules are checked from top to bottom; the first match determines the policy.

This is a syntax snippet, not a complete configuration. example.com is included only to illustrate the rule structure.

Check automatic connections

Test order

Device differences
A Wi-Fi-only iPad cannot be used to test cellular network conditions.

Test automatic triggers and rule-based routing separately; do not use the connection icon as proof of the request result.

For example, a destination matching the DOMAIN-SUFFIX rule above uses DIRECT. Only connections that match no earlier rule reach FINAL,PROXY. Placing FINAL before specific rules prevents those later rules from matching as intended. When comparing devices, check the actual rules and their order, not just the configuration filenames.

Test On Demand with deliberate steps: note the result of a manual connection, then change networks according to the configured conditions and see whether the connection state changes as expected. If no matching condition is configured, do not expect the app to connect automatically every time you open it or switch Wi-Fi networks. Also check whether another VPN configuration is affecting the connection during testing.

First connection and common troubleshooting steps

When you turn on the connection toggle for the first time, the system may ask permission to add a VPN configuration. Approve the prompt, then return to Home to check the connection status. This is a system authorization step on the iPad; approval on your iPhone does not carry over. A VPN entry in system settings is not a backup of your subscription or rules and does not confirm that the app’s data is complete.

  1. The app still shows a price: Check the App Store purchasing account, original purchase history, and App Store availability. Changing in-app settings repeatedly will not resolve a purchase issue.
  2. No servers appear in Home: Check whether you only saved the subscription URL and whether the update succeeded. An installed app does not necessarily have imported connection details.
  3. An item is listed but does not work: Check the selected item, server parameters, and any device limits imposed by your existing service. Use your own valid port, password, and other connection details; do not guess from the item name on your iPhone.
  4. Connected, but the results differ: Compare Global Routing, the active Config file, its rules, and the selected server—in that order. Test on the same network and against the same destination.
  5. A button is missing only in landscape: Check which item is selected in the list and details pane, then try widening the app window or switching to portrait. Do not delete a configuration that is already working.

Check installation in three steps: Shadowrocket has been redownloaded from the App Store; the details in Home and Config have been imported and selected correctly; and the iPad has system authorization and produces the expected results. Following this order preserves your existing iPhone setup while helping identify whether the issue is with the purchase, configuration, or connection.
